Environment – Alternate Mode of Transport:

While Maruti is leading in volumes, APL Vascor is the leading LSP who are supporting in this
endeavor. APL accounts for 80% of volumes moved through Train.

Train is a larges mode of transportation for finished vehicles in developed countries like USA

and Europe. As a nation we are progressing well, but still have concerns and issues;

Key Challenges for AFTO Train:

• Certain routes are tough (East/North-East), empty hauls actually adds to the cost
• Sustainable volumes not available for all OEM’s

• OEM’s should not only evaluate from cost saving approach, rather use it

• Ideal for Bulk movement (Hub and Spoke distribution)
• Sharing of resources by OEM’s could help bring focus on cost reduction

• More friendly Private freight terminals can be added to the system

• Possibility to improve lead time by at least 10-15 %
• Movement of 2 and 3 wheelers are still a concern due to rake type and distance the

vehicle travels inside the rake

• Dedicated Freight Corridor (West and East), will add value into the operations

Increased use AFTO Train (Parts and Finished Vehicle) will reduce CO2 Emission
