Driver’s Skills:
Japanese OEM’s like Toyota, Nissan and Honda are the fore runners in this area. As insurance
company is always looking at reducing the claim ratio they constantly work with leading OEM’s on
improving the skill sets of the drivers. These programs are very meaningful and goes a long way
in ensuring improved motivation among the Driver’s fraternity. During my career I have always
heard the drivers wanted to pick up loads from companies like Toyota, Honda etc. as these
companies jointly conduct the Driver Skill Improvement program in association with Insurance
partners. The following activities are done with an annual calendar:
1) Street play skit. Organized with the help of National School of Drama
2) Medical Camp for drivers to check the health condition which also includes eye check
3) Practical simulation of trucks/trailers are taught at the OEM’s place
4) Class room training for drivers is conducted through instructors
5) Briefing before journey is conducted
6) Driver if unwell the load is not provided to him
7) OEM and insurance partners conduct route survey for any new route/dealer
8) Regular En-route check of the consignment’s are done
9) Insurance claims if any is classified with cause and effect to eliminate issues
Good Practices introduced by Japanese OEM’s with support of insurance partners has helped in
improving awareness among the Logistics Service Providers. LSP look forward to such programs
to get their drivers trained and improve skill set. At the same time this has helped in ensuring
adherence to Statutory Norms and reduced en-route accidents.
