Violation of Standard Norms:
As explained in the earlier chapters, in India Logistics means transportation. In many companies

we use to have Transport Manager. The role of the Transport Manager was to ensure he delivers
finished goods to the customers at the most economical price. The approach was to engage a
transporters who agrees to our terms. Safety and quality was omitted.

   Causes Experienced:
   • Overloading of Carrier: When we travel on road we would have come across trucks with full

overload than its capacity. This got into our system wherein Auto OEM’s wanted the LSP’s to
carry maximum number of vehicles in the trucks/trailers.
   • Higher Capacity than permitted: Higher capacity was achieved by making certain amends in

the standards to carry more loads
   • Violation of Standards in terms of Length, Width and Height: To accommodate more

vehicles this was violated both in two and four wheel transportation. In rigid body trucks cabin
above was used to increase capacity. For 4 wheelers Standard length was increased by 4
meters to accommodate two more extra vehicles.

   • Vehicle Overhang: Increased overhang in single axle trucks thereby making the rigid body
trucks longer than permitted norms. Due to weight the truck would tilt to the side of weight.

   Effect of the Cause:
   • En-route Accidents. Loss of control while driving due to overweight and overhang. In many
cases skill level of drivers were a concern to driver such vehicles

   • The savings accrued due to changes in size and capacity was shared between OEM and LSP,
        but the en-route issues increased.

   • Delayed in delivery of consignments
   • Getting a driving license for HCV was possible with limited easy without testing skills
